Buying guide

Buying label printers: what to know

Can I print USPS, UPS, and FedEx labels on these printers?

Yes. Our label printers handle standard 4x6 inch shipping labels used by USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and every major marketplace, including Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify. They appear to your computer as a normal printer, so any platform that generates a label PDF can print to them.

What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?

Direct thermal printing burns the image into heat-sensitive label stock with no ribbon, which is ideal for shipping labels and short-life stickers. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon for labels that must survive years of sunlight or abrasion. For shipping and day-to-day business labeling, direct thermal is simpler and cheaper.

Do label printers work with Mac and Windows?

Yes. Every Northline label printer ships with drivers for Windows and macOS and supports standard printing over USB. Network models also print from Chromebooks and mobile devices on the same network.
